Week 16//It's the Little Things

No worries everyone, I have returned! Sometimes I forget that this blogging situation is real, and so I don't do it for nearly two weeks, I'm sorry. It happens to the best of us, amirite? Anywho, how is everyone? I hope the answer to that is something along the lines of good, great, wonderful, splendid or lovely, because you deserve it. This last week has been really weird. I have been feeling so much random teenage angsty-ness it has been awful, my apologies go out to anyone who has been there for it. But tonight, I was randomly reminded of the small things of the every day that in hindsight, really are huge. Was that the most cliche sentence I've ever written? Yes. Does that make it any less true? Nope. Deal with it. Anyway, I just wanted to tell all y'all about some of the little big things of my world as of late:
*Christmas lights: They have arrived on BYU campus, and I couldn't be happier about it. We have entered into my favorite time of year. The emphasis on family, yummy food, PARTIES everywhere you look, decorations out the wazoo, I just freaking love all of it.
*I've always heard that there is a certain beauty in doing random things completely by yourself, and I never really thought that could be much fun, but I was wrong. Tonight I went to the BYU Jazz Synthesis concert that featured the Contemporary Dance Theater, and I was flying solo. It was the most random thing I have probably every attended of my own free will, but it was SO GOOD. I don't recall ever feeling classier than I did tonight, with my red lipstick at a jazz concert. For the BYU students out there, before you graduate, go see a jazz show. So worth it.
*Peppermint Ice Cream: Ok, you know how I just said how much I love this time of year and listed a bunch of reasons why? I did, and I left peppermint ice cream off that list for a reason. I love that stuff so much it needed an asterisk all to itself. Guys. It's so good. Like, I'm thinking this stuff should be illegal it's that good.
*Cake Donuts: The eternal sweet-tooth craving is a good cake donut. Few things taste as good as a fresh cake donut, and if you don't agree, that's fine, but you're wrong. :)
*William Carlos Williams: This guy is a gem. If you haven't read his classic poems, you definitely should. I remember being in 7th or 8th grade English class, and thinking that his work could NEVER be defined as actual poetry; it just seemed like nonsense. Not saying I'm much smarter now than I was back in the day, but I do know that I appreciate his works more, as should all of you.
*Good friends: This doesn't really seem like a "little" thing, but sometimes when life is coming at you full force, sometimes you forget what is right in front of your eyes. The feeling of knowing that there are people who care for you and have your back is really wonderful. I definitely take it for granted sometimes, which is terrible, but I'm going to try and be better.
*The November Sign at the P&S: At my job, we have a sign hanging that says "Grateful for November" and it is covered in little leaves we cut out that have things we are grateful for on them. This sign makes me happy every time I read it. I love it because it isn't covered in the big things that everyone talks about (i.e. family, friends, the gospel, health). It's the things that are so small and insignificant that we tend to forget about. Examples: sweater weather, new sharpies, Justin Bieber's Christmas album, Sodalicious (let's be real, I couldn't forget about that if I tried), Taco Tuesday, bubble wrap, caffeine. This sign is a daily reminder to me of the little things in my life that I really am grateful for.

As Thanksgiving is this week, I am so happy to reflect on the things of worth in my life that make it so good. I am so grateful for those that influence my life and have had a helping hand in making me into the person I am today. Thank you for being solid human beings everyone. I love you guys!
